About 20 years ago, when our oldest two sons were tiny, I remember reading Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys by Dan Kindlon. A lot of these ideas were put forth in that book. Now I have five sons and a daughter and have often thought back to the impossible position young men can find themselves in when we expect "too much" from them, and at the same time, "not enough."
